Unsupported over-generalization

[edit]

The following paragraph occurs in the article:

For many years, the kings of France would struggle to keep the Catholic Church in power, as it was filled with supporters of their policies. This would lead to persecution of non-Catholics under Francis I, Henry II, Francis II, and Charles IX.

Gross generalizations of a partisan sort, unsupported by any argument or reference. Fails to mention, let alone discuss, the rise of the Huguenots, the wars of religion, papal opposition to French expansion in Italy (It might even plausibly be said that the Catholic Church was filled with opponents of the King of France's policy), Spanish efforts (including invasion) to keep French dissenters out of Spanish territory and to prevent France from becoming Protestant.

The superficial remark quoted really should be heavily revised, with appropriate supporting argument and reference, or else deleted.
